Cordelia (12) and her sister Mer Merryspell (13), live with
their separated mother, Hepsibah, their rather painful sister
Myrtle (18), and their adored Gran, Daisy, in a cosy
cottage buried deep inside an ‘out of the way’ woodland.

Up until now, the two have both enjoyed the fun and pure adventure that magic has afforded them. But, they and their friend’s carefree mystical world of witchdom, is
about to change forever.

Witchdom, as every witch and warlock will soon discover, is being taken over by a population of sinister witches; so dark and devoid of human emotions, that even their bodies have become as cold as ice. Little wonder they’ve become known as
the dreaded ‘Ice Witches’.

Firstly, Cordelia became aware of this dire threat by reading a book by her favourite wizard Melchior Fizz entitled ‘Out-Witching Witchdom’, a book that explains what has and is about to happen; and how to out-witch these beings. It’s a book that’s not only highly dangerous to be found in possession of,
but totally banned by all witches.

Cordelia tells Mer and Mer all their friends; the rumour spreads rapidly. But something and someone nasty intervenes to prevent them overcoming this evil. They are the Five Witches of Gloom; and they have other more direct plans for
the lives of these young witches.

The story is balanced between the coming darkness, and the excitement of their magical escapades, eventually culminating in a final battle with all their adversaries.
